Biographies
Brian has over 20 years of private client practice experience and has specialised in Court of Protection work for most of that time. He is head of Thomson Snell & Passmore’s leading Court of Protection team. He works on complex personal injury and clinical negligence cases where the claimant lacks capacity and advises on the role of deputy and the likely costs involved. Brian has particular interest and experience in administering the finances of those who lack capacity due to brain and birth injuries. His experience includes acting as a professional deputy appointed by the Court of Protection, undertaking expert witness work for both claimant and defendant solicitors and joint instructions, acting as a trustee in trusts established to deal with personal injury damages awards and acting for various parties in Court of Protection proceedings, including both contested and non-contested applications.
Louise is a partner in Thomson Snell & Passmore’s Court of Protection team where she has worked for over 6 years. She has expertise in advising on and preparing a range of Court of Protection applications for individuals who lack capacity to make particular decisions, including deputyship, lifetime gift and statutory will applications. Her work includes supporting vulnerable elderly clients as well as adults and children who experience capacity issues and have complex needs. She is experienced in managing clients’ financial affairs where they have appointed a professional attorney or deputy, and works closely with clients, their families and wider support networks to ensure their needs are met. She has experience in dealing with cases where financial abuse has occurred and has a keen interest in advising lay deputies and attorneys on their duties and responsibilities, to include care fee funding and community care issues.
