Lucy spoke very bravely and eloquently about the difficulties she has experienced in getting people to understand her challenges and needs, especially at school, at our 2020 Survivors’ Conference.
As well as being a great speaker, Lucy also has many other talents, including painting and jewellery making and she has just demonstrated another – poetry! Lucy has just won a school wide competition with her poem about lockdown. Well done Lucy – great job!
Lockdown

It all started in March 2020
Our lives suddenly turned incredibly empty.
Who had heard of a pandemic sweeping the world?
Suddenly in lockdown we were all hurled.
The Covid-19 virus was everywhere
We were so frightened to even breathe the outside air
We were all stuck in our homes in self isolation
Watching Boris Johnson on the news addressing the nation.
People queuing outside supermarkets 2 meters apart.
The food and toilet paper all gone from panic at the start.
Don’t forget the hand sanitiser and face mask to walk out the door
This isn’t just a request – it is now the law.
Schools and non-essential businesses all have to close.
Zoom and Teams become the new way to go.
Together we came to look after each other.
Celebrations were missed and families couldn’t see one another.
On Thursdays at 8, we clapped for carers on the front line
To show how thankful we are – we all took the time.
The amazing doctors and nurses who keep us alive
Only because of them did we all survive.
It has now been 11 months since we have been in quarantine.
But Pfizer and Astrazenica have now developed a vaccine.
We are all hoping and praying that this nightmare will soon end,
And we will all be able to start seeing our family and friends.
But looking back over the past year
I have been very lonely and shed many a tear
Our mental health has been so affected
But I am very thankful that I haven’t been infected.
I will wait inside and stay out of harm
Until us kids are allowed a jab in the arm.
Where it all started nobody knows
But I am sure that it was China from where it rose.
Life will be different when this all ends
Kindness and love will help us all mend.
The planet will be happier once we have won this war.
And we will all appreciate life so much more.
